Celebrating National Poetry Month - Elizabeth Harris and Marco Candida

Join us this Friday, April 24th at 7 p.m. for part three of our National Poetry Month reading series featuring a dual reading from Elizabeth Harris and Marco Candida. Elizabeth will read a selection of translated work (including some of Marco's) and Marco will read his own work in Italian.

Marco Candida is from Tortona, Italy, and is considered a rising star in Italian fiction. In the last two years, he has published three novels and a story collection with such prestigious presses as Sironi Editore. Candida is currently a research/creative scholar at UND, where he is working with Elizabeth to translate his second novel, Il diario dei sogni (Dream Diary). He was also a featured writer at UND's 2009 Writers Conference.

Elizabeth Harris is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at UND. Some of her recent translations, stories by Giulio Mozzi, appear or are forthcoming in The Literary Review, The Missouri Review, and The Kenyon Review.

Celebrating National Poetry Month - Heidi Czerwiec

Join us for our second installment in our National Poetry Month reading series this Friday, April 17th at 7 p.m. with poet Heidi Czerwiec. The reading is free and open to the public.

Heidi is assistant professor of Literature and Creative Writing at the University of North Dakota, where she is also the Director of the annual UND Writers Conference. She is the author of "Hiking the Maze" (Finishing Line Press, 2009) and has poems and translations published or forthcoming in Measure, Nimrod, Evansville Review, Southern Indiana Review, Hunger Mountain, and International Poetry Review. Copies of "Hiking the Maze" are available at Zandbroz Variety in downtown Fargo and at www.amazon.com. Copies will also be available at the reading.

"Hiking the Maze" is a patient meditation on the spirit of landscape and its effects on humanity. Heidi is a warm and engaging individual with plenty of stories to share.

Celebrating National Poetry Month - Kevin Carollo

Kevin Carollo kicks off our National Poetry Month reading series with an evening of wry and witty verse. He teaches world literature and writing at Minnesota State University Moorhead and has published poems in Conduit, Court Green, Cranky, Lungfull!, and elsewhere. He is the winner of Cream City Review’s 2009 Beau Boudreaux Poetry Prize, judged by Arielle Greenberg. A regular contributor to Rain Taxi Review of Books, Kevin has also translated two novels from French.

Kevin infuses his poetry with animal imagery, words like "gazillion," and the tasks of manipulating the world into something that can be confidently understood. He reads this Friday, April 10th, at 7 p.m. in Stoker's in the Basement. There is no cover and the reading is open to the public.

W. Scott Olsen - Book Release Celebration

Author and Concordia College English Professor W. Scott Olsen will be on hand tomorrow night to read from and sign his new book "Hard Air: Adventures from the Edge of Flying." The festivities start at 7 p.m. and will be held in Stoker's in the Basement. The party is sponsored by the Hotel Donaldson and Zandbroz Variety.
