Funk Commission - Chaired by the Undersecretary of Funk

Jazzy horns and groove ... quite the stimulus package. The Funk Commission returns to the HoDo Lounge for a night of uptempo contemporary jazz/funk ... too hot for C-Span! Come out and hear their report to the Council on Funky Relations. 8 p.m., no cover, 21+.

Give Funky Thanks to the Mindfunk Allstars

The Mindfunk Allstars (listen here on MySpace) rock space-age synth funk officially endorsed by NASA* and are just coming off a gig on the International Space Station* (above). If someone remade "2001: A Space Odyssey," they'd be on the soundtrack*.

*Probably not true. But what is true is the stankalicious groove laid down by our friends in the Mindfunk Allstars. Your rump need some pre-Thankgiving shakin'? We got the cure. Join us this Wednesday at 8:00 p.m., no cover, 21+.

The Mindfunk Allstars Don't Play Baseball

After the marathon (boondoggle?) of last night's Major League Baseball All Star game, you might think you've had enough all stars for a while, even with territorial hero Justin Morneau (above) crossing home plate for the winning run.

But fret not, friends. Tomorrow night's HoDo Lounge musical guests, The Mindfunk Allstars (here, on MySpace), do not play baseball ... at least not professionally. Instead, they play an inebriating blend of grooving funk and whirling electronic bleeps (reminiscent of the Disco Biscuits or Fargo's late, great Snacktones) tailor made for marathon dance sessions. Perhaps you could show up wearing your Converse All Stars? Ha!

Yeah, bad joke. Show at 8:30 p.m., no cover, 21+.

Horns! And More Horns!

America's love affair with horn-driven combos has a proven track record. From the Big Bands until the present, we've gone ga-ga over honking sax, ear-tingling trumpets and trombone glissando - Tower of Power, Deep Banana Blackout, Breakestra and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band are all great examples.

On top of the music, which is amazing, you've also got the spectacle to go along with it. Put loud horns in a room with the energy of a rock band and the air turns electric. Sure, horn combos sound great on record. But, you really need to see them live:

That's Post Traumatic Funk Syndrome, Fargo's own funky love letter to the horn combo, and they will squeeze all the energy they can into the HoDo Lounge tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m. (Visit their web site here, and check out more YouTube fun here) It's gonna be like lightnin' in a bottle. There's a $5 cover and it's 21+ (sorry, minors). Get yer funk on!
