Bras On Broadway, 2008

The 3rd Annual Bras On Broadway benefit and art auction, helping people in our area living with breast cancer, was held on Thursday, October 23rd. The turnout was wonderful, our donated art was incredible, and the event itself raised a grand total of $29,000 for the American Cancer Society. We thank everyone who donated, made a work of art, provided sponsorship or came out to the event.

We'd also like to thank everyone who modeled the wearable art. The bras were definitely the star of the show...

...but the non-wearable art was great, too, and deserved modeling as well...

...there was good music from Amanda Standalone and the Pastry Shop Girls (yes, that's a washtub bass)...

...and some solid blues from the Deb Jenkins Band...

...all in all, there were a lot of smiles and good times benefiting a great cause:

Another big thank you to Dave and Britta at Milestones Photography for their spirited photos. If you'd like to see more, please visit our Facebook page. Keep an eye out for next year's Bras On Broadway and, in the meantime, if you'd like to make a donation to the American Cancer Society or find more information, please visit their website at www.cancer.org.

The Bra Garland is Up!

Yesterday was a beautiful autumn day, crisp and sunny. We had perfect weather in which to string up the bra garland made from the bras collected during this year's "Bucks and Bras" drive (you can find out more about it here). There are over 1300 bras, about twice as many as last year, and they will be up through Thursday when we host Bras On Broadway, our annual breast cancer benefit/art auction. Speaking of which, there are still tickets available at fargostuff.com.

Understandably, we ended up turning a lot of heads in downtown Fargo during the process. Many passers-by stopped to talk and lend their support. If you're so inclined, stop down while the garland is up and take a moment to check it out.

A big thank you to everyone who made a donation this year. The funds we raise will benefit people in our area living with breast cancer by deferring their travel expenses and purchasing wigs.

Bucks and Bras - Organize Your Family and Friends!

Can we make the world's longest garland of bras? We're going to try, and for a lot of good reasons. Bucks and Bras, a fundraiser in conjunction with our 3rd Annual Bras on Broadway benefit, will raise money for breast cancer research ... and possibly net you and your friends a party at the Hotel Donaldson. Here's how to become involved:

1) Organize a group through your workplace or another community.

2) Have each person donate a bra and make a $5 (or more) donation. If you don't have a bra to donate, we can also put your name on a ribbon for the garland. Watch for the garland to be hung from the HoDo the week of October 20th (last year's is pictured above).

3) The group with the most donations gets a party for 75 people at the HoDo.

If you'd like to organize a group, call 701.478.1000 for information on setting up a drop-off point. If you can't get a group together and would still like to be part of the fun, you can drop off your bras and donations at the HoDo (101 Broadway, Fargo) or at the Institute for Special Surgery, 2301 25th St SW # H - 701.271.1045. Contributions will be accepted until October 17th.

Let's do it!
